It is more useful to make sure has food in stomach when getting prednisilone . Carafate also helps coat and works if think may have an ulcer or gastritis ( like pawing at mouth, grinding teeth around eating)- but carafate may interfere with absorption of some medications so you have to check with the vet about timing of this med.
I have not used pepcid so can't comment on that.
For feedings, really helps to give supplemental feedings with a chicken gravy or even just all meat baby food, chicken /lamb etc. Mine would eat 1/2 jar during meds, and IF work schedule allows, would say if can get 3 x a day feedings/plus prednisilone dosage > So if you are increasing the dosage but only giving it twice a day, if can work out so give it 3x a day instead then each dosage won't be more medication but over the entire day it will be more. (if that makes sense to you).
