Of all the drugs I use, cyclophosphamide is the main drug of concern as far as an owner goes. The drug is excreted in the ferret's urine for up to about 72 hours after it is administered. The ferret should not be allowed to urinate on carpet or other places it might be difficult to clean up. Preferably, the ferret should be isolated for about 48-72 hours after the drug is given. The person cleaning and changing the litter box should wear gloves and possibly a mask, especially if the litter is dusty. The contaminated litter should go into it's own bag and treated like hazardous waste (i.e. don't dump the contaminated litter in the kitchen trash).
