I know what the thing is that I missed. Some ferrets with kidney disease need phosphorous to be reduced. Phosphorous reduction for chronic kidney disease can be done by carefully modifying diet (for example removing organ meats and substituting in high quality protein sources that are comparably low in phosphorous like egg) but is more easily done by reducing protein.
