I would recommend that you try to get your ferret some help today if he is that uncomfortable. Gas producing bacteria may be causing the problem. If so, antibiotics, infants gas drops, and other medications may be very helpful. He also may need some supplemental fluids under the skin to help prevent hydration if he is not drinking well. If his stomach is becoming enlarged quickly, they may want to take an x-ray to make sure he doesn't have an intestinal blockage. If he is older and doesn't have a history of chewing, he may have a hairball trying to move through. Ferrets with IBD have slower GI motility and hair is more likely to accumulate in their stomach and have hairballs form.
