Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] ibd flare up- gas

he just got an xray a few weeks ago in late december at his old vet and nothing abnormal was seen. he's hydrated and peeing well and again his stools were looking good and like he was well on his way to recovery up until his tummy got upset roughly at 1:30 or 2 pm. i actually just used a warming pad and some soft gentle front to back massage and i felt little "gas leaks". he sat patiently and then struggled, i put him down and he pooped and released a good amount of gas. his stomach is already more malleable. right now he's resting in his hospital cage with a warming pad available. and he's already looking a bit better mood-wise. i plan to give him another gentle massage after allowing him to rest a bit.

is infant simethicone something that can normally be used on ferrets? i want to know so that i can ask for dosing guidelines on tuesday when he goes in to the doctor in case this occurs again. i have it available constantly in my emergency kit anyway due
to the other critters i have.

he hasn't had a flare up since roughly late october/early november and since then i've been trying to learn as much as i can about ferret ibd to keep him as low stress and flare up free as possible.i'll also inquire about another xray though his tummy is usually pretty soft and pliable and streamlined with his body. as i write this he pooped more and released more gas and his stomach is back down to it's normal width. i think he may have overeaten soup? he's roughly 2 lbs 15 oz. how much should he be eating daily? at the moment he's eating about 60 ccs at a time every 3 or 3.5 hours.
