Subject: [ferrethealth] Omeprazole
To: fhl <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

Hello,
Is Omeprazole the same thing as Pepcid?
And should it be given separately from other meds...such as prednisolone/baytril/ampicillin/ amoxicillin/amoxi-drops, etc.?
Thanks
Julie

[Pepcid is the same thing as famotidine. Omprazole is another drug altogether and I would double-check with your vet about it. I am not aware of it being used in ferrets. If you get the injectible form of pepcid, that is famotidine, it only needs to be given once a day as a sub-q injection. If you get the 10 mg size Pepcid, you can crush it up and dilute it with 5mL water - and then give 1/2mL once a day (1mg dose). - Moderator (TD)].
