Places to find actual info from experts on what to avoid, as well as what is so-so on various scores, and do notice that some foods which are attractive to ferrets such as macadamias, cocoa, avocados, raisins, alcohol, and anything containing xylitol can actually be toxic for members of carnivora:

We are kibble feeders and have had ferrets in our family for over 30 years. I won't say which types because food preferences is not an FHL topic. Every type of feeding choice has its upsides and its downsides, so whatever you decide talk it over with the treating veterinarian. Your vet will need to see your ferret promptly, anyway, for vaccinations (with those appointments 2 to 3 weeks apart until all vaccinations have been received), wellness exam, and so forth, so discuss food options and what is good and bad about each in those exams. Do plan on vet visits about every 6 months for many ferrets, and save for the more expensive needs like surgery and meds. Your vet can help you separate popular myths from reality if your vet knows ferrets, and you can find ferret vets by using the FHL Ferret Veterinarian resource in the Files section of the FHL website, or by using a similar resource in Ferret Universe, or by going to Support Our Shelters and opening to the page with your area and seeing which vets those shelters use.
