This is sad. While I understand expressing concerns about the standard of
care for an animal in early stages of a disease, that was not the case here.
Holly made it clear that Coco was not responding to the standard of care and
at death's door. Have those of you who have criticized her about using an
alternative treatment really never been there? Lucky you! I have been
there and it really sucks. In those situations, it makes sense to try
anything that might help. My vet has always been supportive of this. He is
not holistic, but understands that when the only other option is death, you
try other things. His philosophy in these situations is the same as
mine.quality of life matters, not the numbers. If Coco has some good days
now when before the treatment he had none, what does it matter what his
glucose reading is? I've had 2 ferrets in the past whose glucose readings
were in the 20's, yes 20's that my vet checked over and over and she acted
fine. This was near the end of life with insulinoma, but they were both
comfortable and content. Quality of life mattered, NOT the glucose reading.

And to have a moderator tell someone that her ferret will die and "you will
only have yourself to blame" was the most unacceptable thing I have ever
seen posted on this list. Do you not realize how this discourages people
from posting to this list? Very disappointing.

Lucie
