Its true that this medication does not seem to be indicated for inuslinoma but in truth we do not know for sure if it will work the same in ferrets. It may very well work differently in a ferret than it would in a dog or cat.
While getting actual blood glucose levels is desirable you can not totally state that people cannot tell if a ferret appears to be doing better or not. If I have a ferret who is sleeping a lot has ataxia and falls over because of insulinoma and after treatment these symptoms disappear then you can reasonably figure that the treatment is working. That does not mean we wont check the glucose but observations of behavior are as important as lab tests.
Its possible that this may actually be a viable treatment, time will tell and calling a new or experimental treatment wacky is out of line.
