Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret With Feaver & Red Spots
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My female went to the vet today

Symptoms: lethargic, shivering, hot to the touch, and a small red spot on her lower tummy (flat and red with a little darker dot in the middle) plus another much smaller dot that's not healed.

Tests: blood sugar & CBC, fever approx. ~105.4, elevated neutrophils (white blood cells), platelet count normal.

Treatment: sub-q fluids, a baytril injection, and baytril oral to give for a week.

Other than an infection, the vet thought it might be skin cancer but did not know for sure.

I searched the archives for red spots that revealed adrenal hot spots and possible anemia. She does have adrenal disease and I'm waiting for the des implant.

Any clues as to what this may be beyond what I've listed?

[Posting a photo would be helpful. Petechia, associated with adrenal disease are tiny hemorrhages beneath the skin that appear as red dots, but they are not open. Skin cancer would appear very differently. The only way to know for certain is to biopsy one of the spots. Still a fever/infection is something else again. She could have injured himself with scratching or otherwise and developed an infection at the site, but overall fever suggests more than a superficial infection. - Moderator (TD)].
