I have never seen a proven age that old (17) so have to wonder if the person may be misremembering instead of checking paperwork. (When I used to keep records on extremely old ferrets ages some people got surprises when they checked their paperwork because some with long experience had lumped two ferrets together in their minds or just had gotten the ages wrong. In one case a vet was caring for the ferrets of a family which lived in multiple counties and it turned out that instead of getting new paperwork for new ferrets they got kits while in Europe when old ones died and then moved them back and forth between nations on the paperwork of ferrets who had passed away, so it looked like multiple ferrets over time were the same few ferrets.

The proven ages I had seen in data for UNusually old ferrets went up to age 14 years until recently (maybe the year before last?) when a vet mentioned one with a proven age of 15 years.

Of course, those ferrets are like people who reach 115 or so...
