I have a few quick thoughts. First up, if you've been using any kind
of lancet, try switching to a hypodermic needle, like a 21 gauge.
Those are extremely sharp and don't really seem to inflict significant
extra pain, and they work a lot better on these guys don't bleed very
much.

Second, a shelter operator I have tremendous respect for does her BG
sticks on the tip of the tail and has great success with it. I
imagine you'd have to snip away a little bit of fur.

Lastly, you can try warming the site (like the paw pad) before
sticking it, to get more blood into the area.
