Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret with hind leg weakness, seizure, possible kidney problems?
To: "ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com" <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>
Anemia, elevated phosphorus and creatinine indicate kidney failure. Â Kidney failure doesn't usually cause the bladder to swell--a urinary blockage would though. Â He may not be able to void fully but is chronically leaky.
Further diagnostics are definitely needed. Â The neurologic signs (seizures, back legs stiff, even the urinary issues) should be investigated and simple x-rays would probably not be useful unless he had a very obvious spinal injury or tumor.
If you can take him to a specialty referral center like LSU I would do so. Â It doesn't sound like adrenal disease to me because anemia + bladder stuff points to kidneys. Â He's also pretty young.
With high kidney values and the urinary issues I would try to solve this quickly which is why I would go to a referral center rather than play phone tag with LSU. Â Â They will want to do more diagnostics and they have the equipment (ultrasound etc) to do it right then and there.

Hello, I was redirected here and I hope someone can help me. Thank you for your time.
My ferret Goomba is a 1.5 year old male and weighs just over 3lbs. He had some tremors in his back legs in January, after switching to a natural diet. We got a Blood-glucose test done and it was 122. His legs went from trembling occasionally to constant stiffness in one month's time. Goomba had what we think was a seizure last Friday. He got another BG test and it was 150. Today he had a blood panel and it was determined he is anemic, and that his phosphorous and creatinine levels were high.
