Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] What methods of taking bloods are there and are they painful? Please help
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

There are other mild sedatives that can be used other than gas. Some of my ferrets have needed a sedative for blood drawing, but never gas. If a useful vein cannot be found on a leg then the jugular can be used, and has for some of my ferrets, but never has there been a need to ‘cut their neck open’. Usually there is only a very small mark left. And yes, that small area needs to be shaved, but if the ferret is sedated for that short time, then this is not a problem.

Is your ferret on any meds currently, and does she have insulinoma, or was she tested for it? The ulcers could have been a symptom related to insulinoma or another disease or illness putting undue stress on her body.
