My vet can shave and take blood from the jugular with a syringe without any anesthetic if I hold her. If your ferret really trusts you and you are confident in holding her still and upright you can do this. My vet is an excellent surgeon and knows my ferrets (and me), he is also very quick. To remove a small growth from my ferrets foot he charged for 4 seconds operating time.
A good vet is worth a gold mine.
