I have to say in my limited experience, trying to teach my ferrets who's the alpha has not worked. Some of them get more excited and bitey if I do that. My largest male gets way more excited if I try to reinforce who's the "boss" so I've found that with him I just don't give him a chance to misbehave. I have a girl though who becomes quite contrite if you scruff her and say "no". I also agree that sometimes the best solution is just to control who lives with whom, who plays with whom, etc. Sometimes they get used to each other and learn to play nice, and sometimes they don't. I'd love it if my little business could all live together in the same big cafe peaceably, but that's not gonna happen. I only have five ferrets, but need two play groups because of personal likes and dislikes.
