Pain thresholds vary considerably in animals as much as they do in humans. For example, some kids will scream when given a needle, others barely notice. By the same token some parents expect their kids to keep a stiff upper lip despite the discomfort, others whince themselves and still others do their best to distract them when they have to endure a painful procedure.

I fall into the whincing camp and therefore, prefer to spare my fuzzkids any discomfort ; )

I always taste the medications my fuzzkids get before giving it to them to gain a first hand appreciation of their reaction. As well, I consider what a procedure would feel like if I had to go through it myself in order to put into perspective what the experience is likely to be like for the ferret.

Having that needle stuck between my shoulder blades would not likely be a completely painless procedure.
