Subject: [ferrethealth] PRO/AH/EDR> Avian influenza (27): Israel (HD), turkey, H5N1, RFI
To: fhl <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>, ferret-l@listserv.ferretmailinglist.org

Raw turkey fed to mustelids, resulting in illness from influenza and secondary bacterial pneumonia with death for many mink, which are cousins to ferrets, was a recent topic on the FML and FHL, with extra followup info in one or both of those lists after one of the researchers replied to me, so check the separate archives of the Ferret Health List followed by the Ferret Mailing List if you need more info.

This says that influenza has recently been a large problem in turkeys in Europe, Asia, and Israel, so those with ferrets in such locations need to be careful to cook any turkey for ferrets, please.
