It can be really difficult to diagnose disc lesions from radiographs--even from MRI, and many humans are walking around with spinal lesions that show no symptoms at all.

So my only suggestion is that your vet really rule out any other possibilities that could "look" like disc issues:  a clot, for example.

__Not__ to say your vet is wrong; it's just sometimes there can be more than one rule-out and you should cover all your bases (Dr. Antinoff gave a great/sad story about this at a conference).

Was bloodwork done?
If it is disc disease, pred can be useful but there are also stronger steroids to try. Gabapentin (Neurontin) is a good pain med w/out GI complications and available in an elixir or could be compounded, Tramadol is also useful.
